The Roosevelt Heartland Classic is Saturday, September 20. The start time is 10:45 AM at Pickard Park in Indianola.
As this is Roosevelt’s home meet, as in past years the Roosevelt Cross Country parents will host a concession stand at the meet, plus assist with other meet needs (see below).
What we need to make the meet run smoothly:
1. CONCESSION STAND/T-SHIRT SALES
Volunteers
* 6-8 people to set up 2 hours before races begin (8:45 AM)
* 5-6 people (rotating per race) working in the concession stand throughout the morning
MANY volunteers working in shifts works well so people can go watch their kids race.
In the past the boys’ parents worked during the girls runs, and the girls’ parents worked during
the boys runs.
* EVERYONE to help clean up the park after the meet is completed
Donations
Donated supplies needed for the concession stand:
* Homemade or prepackaged food items to be sold
Last year’s favorites of the homemade items:
- “Puppy chow” (Ziplock sandwich bag size)
- Brownies (without nuts)
- Chocolate chip cookies
- Sugar cookies
- Muffins (chocolate, chocolate chip, lemon)
Last year’s favorites of the prepackaged foods:
- Fruit snacks
- Kudos bars
- Bananas
- Oranges
* Beverages
- Bottled water and Gatorade
We have a donation request into Dahl’s Corporate Office for Gatorade and bottled water.
Hopefully we will know before September 15. If we do not get this donation, a request will be put out for these beverages.
- Hot Chocolate
This would include bringing a large container, as well as cups.
* Items to ‘manage’ the stand/meet::
- 4 large garbage containers and bags
- 10-12 large coolers
- 2 six foot tables
- Ice
- Paper towels
- 4 orange or yellow vests for parking volunteers
- 1 or 2 flags for parking volunteers
Suggestions from last year:
If anyone is interested in coordinating and handling these ideas, let Laurie Wolf know…otherwise we will NOT plan to do these two items:
* Walking Tacos and hot dogs — whatever the volunteer coordinator decides to have is fine
* Coffee — if someone wants to volunteer for this, please bring the pot, coffee supplies and cups.
Running water is available at the park.

8. POST MEET ACTIVITIES
Volunteers
As many as possible to:
* Help clean up the site.
* Sell t-shirts.
* Package up any remaining concession stand items.
(Any leftover prepackaged items and bottled beverages will be sent with the girls and boys
teams when they travel to the Griak Invitational, unless the donor has specifically stated they wanted the
leftover items back.)
Send emails to Laurie Wolf at Lawolf@dmacc.edu indicating what you can volunteer to provide, when you can help with the concession stand, and what other volunteer activities you are interested in helping with. (If you don’t get a response email back within 24-hours call 964.6437).
All volunteers are asked to wear a Roosevelt t-shirt to identify themselves as being with the Roosevelt Cross Country teams.
If you don’t have a Roosevelt t-shirt and/or would like to purchase a Roosevelt Cross Country t-shirt, please indicate in your email size and quantity.
