We survived the Creek Walking at the Ledges

We just returned from our third annual Outing to Ledges State Park.  After heavy rains last week the creeks were a bit trickier this year.  Thirty girls and three coaches enjoyed the day. Pictures will be added tomorrow.  Hope you all enjoyed the day.

When: Tuesday August 11th . Leaving Roosevelt North Parking Lot by 2 PM ( may be a bit later)
We usually leave the park by 7 PM
Who: Roosevelt Girls Team. Please make sure the coaches know you are attending WE need to make sure we have transportation to get you to the park. Coaches and athletes will be driving. Parents: if you prefer your athlete to ride with an adult please let me know ASAP.
Bring: running and creek walking shoes, towel, and a bag to put your wet sandy stuff in for the trip home.
A change of clothes….just in case
food items to share….. Try to make them halfway healthy
we will be providing cold meat sandwiches and P&J
A full water bottle
Sun screen bug spray for bugs and ticks
Anything else you think we need to have
We will still have practice that morning.
We will do very little running there, but a bit of running.
We plan on hiking, nature walks, picture on the bridge, creek walking, senior thoughts, coaches comments, goal building, team plans, picnic lunch, games and skits and other stuff.
PLEASE TELL SCOTT IF YOU PLAN ON ATTENDING BY AUGUST 6th to make sure we have enough drivers
If you have comments or questions please get ahold of Scott.
PLEASE MAKE SURE SCOTT HAS A COPY OF YOUR EMERGENCY FORM BEFORE WE LEAVE
This form is attached to this email or can be found on the Roosevelt Activities Tab on the website.
If any parents would prefer to transport their athlete to the park please contact Scott to make arrangements.

FIRST WEEK OF THE SEASON Starting 10th
The official season begins. We are hoping those of you who plan on running this season will start making practice a part of your day. In order to be ready for the first meet on September 5th an athlete needs to have a base of running under their belts. We understand for some work and family plans will not allow the athlete to attend practice but please let Scott know if you cannot attend practices.
Practices will run just a bit longer this week

UNIFORMS FOR NEW MEMBERS OF THE TEAM
New athletes to the program will again have two options for uniforms. Option A is that the athlete purchase their uniform. The cost will be $40 for shorts and top. This way the athlete owns their uniform and can wear it any time anywhere. Option B is that the athlete checkout a uniform for the season. They will be expected to only where it for meets and will return the uniform at the end of the season. Details will follow shortly

THE WEEK OF THE 18th of August
This week we will combine practice with the middle school program on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

MISC
We have added a stretching routine to our weekly routine. Twice a week we have been doing the routine found attached as well as planks, pushups and crunches. This routine can be done at home as well.
AGAIN BE SURE TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT FOR THE LEDGES OUTING BY THE END OF THE DAY ON THE 6TH.
And FILL OUT THE EMERGENCY FORM IF YOU ARE ATTENDING.

Added this later
Sorry to bother you again, but since I have my son’s wedding this weekend I want to make sure this gets out…..
First, Remember the Ledges Outing this Tuesday. We plan on leaving around 2:15 PM from the tennis courts parking lot.
Bring….towel, bag to put wet clothes in, creek walking shoes and something to add to the picnic meal.
Second….
Due to band camp we will have two choices for practices through at least all of next week (except Tuesday since we will be at the Ledges)
We will have practice at 7:30 AM or 4:30 PM starting at the tennis courts…..same practice….just different start times.
This will let athletes sleep in if they like and allow band members to get in a practice as well.
Make sure you bring water if you attend the 4:30 practice.
Hope to see those of you who have been working this summer at the late practice….remember….every mile in August makes September an easier time.

LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE ATTENDING THE LEDGES OUTING SO WE CAN MAKE SURE WE HAVE ENOUGH TRANSPORTATION.
PEACE
Scott

Rebecca hosts the Clover Dash 5K Run

Team member Rebecca Osthus was the planner, organizer and all around person last weekend at the 1st annual Clover Dash 5K held at the state fair grounds.  She did it to honor her former 4H leader who died unexpectedly last year.  It was a great success with over 200 runners from all over.  Congrats Rebecca on a great race…..make plans to run it next year.rebecca
